Science

Write a magazine article about Alexander Graham Bell. You could talk about his childhood, his parents, his perseverance to invent the telephone and how he felt when he finally managed to invent it. Watch this video to refresh your memory:

History KS1 / KS2: Alexander Graham Bell - BBC Teach

His invention of the telephone was the first time sound was transmitted into electrical signals. This technology lead to the invention of electric hearing aids. How would he have felt about his invention directly leading to the invention of hearing aids? (Remember his mother was deaf and his father spent his life helping deaf people.)

Design an investigation you could carry out at home about sound. Carry out your investigation and write up what you found out. For example, you could investigate different cup and string telephones (like we did in school). Does it make a difference how tight/slack the string is? Does the length of the string make a difference? How else can you show how sound can travel through solids? How can you stop sound from travelling? How could you sound proof your bedroom? Record all of your ideas. You could even create an annotated diagram.

In the News…

Continue to write your diary to explain what it's like to be learning at home whilst school is closed due to the Coronavirus. Keep in touch with elderly relatives and friends by giving them a telephone call to find out how they are and what they’ve been doing at home. This will enable you to share your experiences and may help someone who may be lonely at this time.

Make Someone Smile

There are some awful things happening in our country and worldwide at the moment, so it’s really important to stay positive as this can help us feel happier. We hope that there is something today that you are grateful for or something that has made you smile. Do something to put a smile on somebody else’s face. Make a list of all of the things that you can do for people in your household. Get them to put a tick next to it each time you do it. At the end of the week, write about the kind things you have done for others and explain how this makes you feel.

Be a Teacher

Don’t forget to mark the learning you completed last week from the Home Learning English and Maths Pack. The answers are in the attachments at the bottom of this page.
